The Ultimate Hindi Wedding Guide!

$14.99

Hello all shaadi-goers, planners and brides and grooms to be!

In this 10-page guide, we will go over Hindi phrases, vocabulary and words you should know when you are at a South Asian wedding. This includes:

  • Food words and phrases like “The food is yummy!,” “I’m hungry” and “I’m full!”

  • Clothing and accessories - e.g. what’s the difference between a sari and a lehenga?

  • Common verbs used at weddings - like naacho!

  • Tradition notes - like what happens at a sangeet and mehendi

  • What food to avoid if you don’t want Delhi Belly!

The guide is not in the Hindi script (Devanagari) so you don’t need to learn a whole new alphabet to use it.

We ALSO have a pronunciation guide if you scan the QR code on each page!

NOTE: If you speak Urdu, this guide will still be very useful to you. Conversationally Hindi and Urdu are essentially the same language. There may be some small regional differences (similar to the differences between someone speaking British English and American English), but nothing too huge or groundbreaking.

Why did I pick weddings to review?

Because one of the biggest social events of any Desi family is a good, multiple-day wedding, with hundreds of people. There are lots of “functions,” new attire, food and loads of family to meet. All this means new words and lots of chatting.

Weddings are a wonderful place to practice your Hindi – people are distracted so they won’t hold a conversation for too too long, and there are a variety of event related things you can comment on/talk about (like food, clothes, etc). It is easy to say a quick phrase here and there, without need a response or back and forth.

Hope this guide is useful to you!
